Electrolytes are minerals like sodium, potassium and magnesium. These minerals play a role in hydration, muscle function and a number of different processes. When electrolyte imbalances occur, symptoms like fatigue, muscle cramps, headaches, irritability and more begin to show up. Dehydration from strenuous activity and chronic stress are two common causes of electrolyte imbalances.


If you have fallen into the category of electrolyte imbalance, there is a simple solution, electrolyte replacement. There are a number of pre-made electrolyte replacement powders on the market. There are also a lot of good natural products like coconut water that do an excellent job replacing electrolytes. However, if you’re looking for a quick and easy solution, look no further than Himalayan Salt or Sea Salt. Placing a small pinch of either type of salt in water will create an electrolyte replacement solution. Use just enough salt to make the water taste soft but not salty. Both Himalayan and Sea Salt have a number of naturally occurring minerals. When these minerals get dissolved they create an electrolyte solution with many of the minerals your body needs for proper function. Drinking this solution will start re-balancing electrolytes and relieving symptoms.

A pinch of the right type of salt in water is how simple it is to create your own electrolyte solution. If you start feeling creative, there are a number of recipes available to start adding flavor and expanding your repertoire. For now, you have a quick and easy option in your tool box.
